H&P Search & Interim is now looking for a new General Manager for a very reputable consulting company in global pharmaceutical development.

The Position

The company has an excellent expertise in drug development and regulatory affairs and has successfully supported its global customers at more than 40% of all new drug approvals. The consulting company is very successful globally and regionally. The potential in the Nordic region is great and we are now looking for a new General Manager who wants to lead and develop the company's business both regionally and locally.

The position is based in Stockholm, but the position includes regular international trips to customers, congresses and other offices.

We are looking for a person with documented and long experience from;

• Pharmaceutical development (parent company)

• Leadership / Staff and organizational development

• Management of staff

• P&L responsibility

Furthermore, it is important that you are safe and comfortable in the role of selling and marketing the company's services to different levels and categories of decision makers in an international environment.

Role purpose

  1. To ensure leadership, management and motivation within a geographic region, including training and recruitment to strengthen the team’s capabilities and capacity as necessary,

  2. To ensure effective operational management and delivery of client work in the region and that deliverables meet client, business, regulatory and statutory requirements,

  3. To ensure the promotion of client focus throughout the region,

  4. To ensure proactive expansion of the company’s client relationships and the continual management and strengthening of existing client relationships within the region,

  5. To ensure the implementation of companywide strategy, initiatives and plans to achieve Company Group and region specific objectives,

  6. To ensure efficient management of resources and finances in the region, contributing to the financial performance of the Company Group.

Key responsibilities

1.      Planning and oversight

  1. Actively contribute as a member of the ISOC and the Senior Leadership Team of the Comapny Group.

  2. Review the 5-year Business Roadmap and input into Group wide annual plans and environmental analysis.

  3. Set and deliver to regional business objectives in line with Group wide objectives.

  4. Lead ad hoc work groups to investigate, recommend or execute new development initiatives.

  5. Communicate business plans and objectives and their progress to staff across the Group.


2.      Leadership and operational management

  1. Lead and guide the team, ensuring good communication and transparency, support and effective line management.  

  2. Review capability needs and recruit new team members and sub-contractors to ensure appropriate resources for quality service delivery and efficient resource management.

  3. Manage the operation and service delivery within the region including: 

    • Consistency and efficiency of working practices and client intake process, 

    • Compliance with client, company and regulatory requirements as well as other relevant quality standards, 

    • Oversight and management of local deviations and corrective / preventive actions (CAPA),

    • Project resourcing in collaboration with other managers across the Group, 

    • Frequent and accurate time recording, approval and client invoicing in accordance with contractual terms and Group policy, and 

    • Contract and proposal authoring, review and negotiation.

  4. Build strong relationships within the Company Group to actively support cross organizational service delivery. 

  5. Manage the professional development of individuals, including the implementation of individual objectives, development plans, reviews and assessment of training and development to fulfill individual, business and client needs, including succession planning.

  6. Provide a good working environment for the team and for client visits.

  7. Develop knowledge, skills and competencies by participating in training and development opportunities. Share learning experiences within the Group.

  8. Promote continual improvement and support other management roles in demonstrating leadership in their areas of responsibility.

  9. Support the team with effective conflict and issue resolution as required.


3.      Client relationship management

  1. Actively identify new business opportunities for the Group across all service areas and communicate to appropriate colleagues.

  2. Plan and drive regional outreach to meet agreed sales targets.

  3. Champion information exchange with colleagues to enable Company to develop new business opportunities and participate in internal coordination meetings to secure business.

  4. Develop and maintain a network of clients and potential clients. 

  5. Monitor clients’ long-term needs and determine opportunities for development of Company business with the client companies.

  6. Seek and monitor client satisfaction and perception of quality of services delivered, to achieve appropriate service quality and high levels of repeat business.

  7. Contribute to sales and marketing initiatives to further develop the perception of Company as a leading Consultancy.


4.      Financial management

  1. Propose cost budget for the year and proactively control costs.

  2. Contribute to annual Group budget and revenue projections.

  3. Monitor financial performance through review of client proposals and contracts, service delivery, time recording and regular financial reports.

  4. Liaise with Finance function and COO to maintain a clear view of the region’s financial status.
