H&P Search & Interim is, under strict confidentiality, recruiting a R&D Director on behalf of our client in Uppsala, Sweden.

About the company

Key responsibilities for the R&D Director

  • Take active part in the management team and provide leadership, direction and mentorship for the R&D function

  • Manage (lead, motivate, develop and evaluate) direct reports assigned to department, ensuring the correct application of tools and policies on training, career path and evaluations and inputs to compensation systems

  • Manage the R&D budget

  • Be the “owner” of the ongoing R&D project pipeline and future projects to be initiated

  • Initiate, plan, prioritize and allocate all R&D activities including financial and human resources

  • Implement technological strategies, system capabilities and process control tools to ensure successful development and launch of new tests/products in agreed areas (expansion of current areas as well as new areas) with robust performance and manufacturability, on time and within budget

  • Adopt and customize the company’s technology and operating platform to support new tests/products, according to disease area needs

  • Effectively communicate department or area issues and results within and across functional areas and conducting presentations of details and/or technical information concerning specific projects or timelines

  • Lead by example, developing and mentoring R&D team on product development methodology, critical thinking and problem-solving skills and encourage creativity in the R&D team

  • Ensure timely and consistent communication to stakeholders (CEO, management team and board) on progress, risk management and change management associated with technology and R&D portfolio

  • Direct and maintain the R&D quality system program; promote and facilitate continuous quality improvement

  • Collaborate with the founder and scientific adviser, in relation to scientific communication, IP strategy, patents, grant applications, clinical trials etc.

  • Contact vs the research -and clinical community, ensuring the company is in the forefront when it comes to research and clinical trials as well as knowing how, when, where and why the company´s technology is being used

Managerial for the R&D Director

Education/Experience/Qualification for the R&D Director

  • Advanced degree in science (Biology, Chemistry) required, preferred PhD

  • Minimum 10 years of R&D experience with a background in the IVD/medical diagnostic industry

  • Minimum of 5 years of direct product development and launch experience

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in R&D managerial roles

  • Deep understanding of the the company´s technology or very similar technology/system in molecular biology

  • Fluent English and Swedish skills in speaking, writing and understanding

The ideal candidate for this role will have experience in new concept and product development. S/he will have a strong working knowledge of design controls, QSR and all relevant regulatory requirements for the design, development and commercialization of medical diagnostic technologies and products. S/he achieves objectives of technology innovation and product development, after consideration of time, cost and performance standards. S/he applies all relevant international regulations/norms/standards.
